The Clip Recorder feature of CopyPaste remembers and records up to 200 items copied with ‘⌘ C’. Internally, the clips are stored in what programmers call a “stack.” Each time you copy a clip with ‘⌘ C’, it’s placed on top of the stack (no. "0"), and previous clips are moved down one place, much like loading plates into a spring-loaded bin in a restaurant.
You can also think of the Clip Recorder as a feature providing multiple levels of undo for the last items you copied with ‘⌘ C’. For example, if you need to paste in a clip that you copied five copies ago then you can pull down the "Edit" menu and select "Paste -> Clip Recorder.” There you will find what you are looking for.
Later in the LIFO-Paste chapter we’ll learn another way to paste from the Clip Recorder.
You will find Clip Recorder a good friend and a convenient tool.
Try it! Open the Clip Extender Palette and click on the Clip Recorder button (the cassette icon) * at the bottom. A second palette of clipboards pops up on the screen. Select some text, type ‘⌘ C’ and it will appear in clipboard 0 of this Clip Recorder Palette. Now select some more text and type ‘⌘ C’ again. This new text appears in clipboard 0 while the clip that was in clipboard 0 moves down to clipboard 1.
You can view the clips in the Clip Recorder Palette the same way you can in the Clip Extender Palette. Drag and Drop works too, so when you decide that one of the clips in the Clip Recorder Palette should be preserved, you can simply drag it into the Clip Extender Palette!
